Inveraray Castle is the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll, Chief of the Clan Campbell and an iconic must-see visitor attraction on the West Coast of Scotland. Based on a design by the architect Vanburgh, it was built to a design by William Adam and the foundation stone was laid in 1746. Repair work following a fire in the Castle in 1877 resulted in the addition of the conical roofs on the corner towers which you see today. The Castle contains a breathtaking armoury and palatial state rooms as well as its famous Beauvais tapestries and porcelain collections.
